Area Rating

Residents of Flamborough currently do not pay  taxes for services they do not receive.  Each year approximately $750.00 is taken off Flamborough residents' taxes.  This is called area rating and has  been in place since amalgamation in the suburban areas.

Area rating remained as part of the City's budget for 2007, but there will be discussions taking place later in the year regarding how area rating will be dealt with during the 2008 budget process.  While there will be talks on having area rating eliminated, Councillor McCarthy will continue her fight to keep it in  place.

During the 2007  budget process had area rating been eliminated, taxes for Flamborough, along  with the other suburban areas would have increased somewhere along the  following:  Flamborough 13.7%, Glanbrook 14.5%, Ancaster 11.3%, Stoney Creek 11%, Dundas 9%.  I have attached an article speaking on this issue.
