Developing a commercial base to service the community.
We
need to create an environment that will help foster local jobs and
bring in commercial tax dollars. That is why I worked so hard to
support the Big Box development at Clappison’s Corners.
Commercial growth is what is needed to take the financial burden off
the residential tax base (the right commercial growth). Too many
dollars are being spent outside of Flamborough. We can be doing better,
and now we will be doing better with over a million square feet of new
commercial and retail space, creating between 1200 and 1500 new jobs
once the project on the North side of Dundas Street is fully built-out.
Councillor
McCarthy brokered a successful resolution to a contentious local
business expansion that saw two opposing sides come together in
agreement. This agreement resulted in an additional 70 jobs to the area
while protecting area residents concerns over quality of life issues.
Residents
and business owners now have a successful working relationship which
has culminated in the expansion of 70 new jobs for Coreslab. The
precast concrete company has been given the approval to build a
controversial 47,000 square foot structural plant and a 25,510 square
foot wall panel plant, as well as a batch plant to mix concrete.
Residents originally opposed to the expansion expressed numerous
concerns, however after working with the owners, the residents saw so
many operational improvements along with additional site alterations
that they supported the expansion, which resulted in the successful
approval in the end.
