5. Councillor McCarthy's Submission to the Ministry

RE: A REQUEST BY FLAMBOROUGH SPRINGS TO THE  MINISTRY OF THE ENVIRONMENT TO INCREASE THEIR WATER TAKING PERMIT AT 160  11th CONCESSION ROAD EAST

Flamborough Springs has applied to the Ministry of the Environment to increase their water intake on the 11th Concession to a maximum of 250,000 litres per day, 8 hours per day, 365 days per year, for the next 10 years from the date of approval. Currently 56,000 litres  are taken per day. With the historic water problems that we have this is  of great concern to me.

THIS WATER TAKING PERMIT INCREASE, BASED ON M.O.E. STANDARDS, IS EQUIVALENT TO AN ADDITIONAL 175 TO 250 HOMES WITH RESPECT TO WATER CAPACITY.

A hydrogeologial study prepared by the applicant has been received by the City and is currently being reviewed. Results  of this review will be available to be discussed at this Information  Meeting on February16th. I am hosting this meeting along with City staff  members to address any questions and concerns and how they may affect you as area residents.

The deadline for public comments to be submitted to the Ministry is Tuesday, February 28, 2006. This meeting will allow us to prepare our required comments for submission to the Ministry before their final evaluation.
