09/26/08 - Review Article - Twin pad facing $4m shortfall

09/23/08 - Councillor McCarthy met with City staff today and provided the following:   "A grant through the Province is being applied for in the area of $4 million.  The total twin ice project and accessory uses total close to $15 million.  $11 million has been budgeted for the project which leaves us with gap funding to raise. This gap funding may be achieved through a provincial grant that is currently being explored, or through a combination of debenture, and fundraising.  Initial project time lines I am told cannot be realized because of cost overruns, and hwy 5 & 6  transportation issues, however, I will expect that the project will move quickly from now on as most of the outstanding issues have been identified.

Further updates to come once available. "

08/30/07 - Council approved the go ahead and financing for the new twin pad arena in early June. The Arena is slated to go on the existing North Wentworth lands. Staff are completing the Design and Build Tender to go  out this fall. If all goes as it is planned the new Twin Pad should be ready in early 2009. The existing North Wentworth Arena will remain operational until  such time as the new facility opens and then it will be demolished to make way for the additional parking required.
